finalising logo scamps

These scamps are all based on a scamp at the bottom of the last post (Scamps).

Personally I like the last scamp the best but it still needs a lot of work.
And I'm not too sure how to handle the 2013 that must accompany the lettering.

Research into hand drawn type

I love the way the text in this example flows into itself.
De Lange, J. 2007. Johdel is happy to be here. One Small Seed 1(8), sept/oct/nov: 124.
"steal everything" inspires me the most
Of all the text in this image, "liberty" is my favorite.

I love the entire paragraphs written by hand.

When i was first thinking about a logo, I wanted to do something similar to this.
then I changed my mind.
I think I'll still use awesome grungy wood though. I like that

Perry, M. 2007. Hand job: a catalogue of type. New York: Princeton Architectural Press.
This source applies to all images in this post except for the 1st one (which is from One Small Seed).

Consultation notes

Advice from consulting with Christa
A few things that are needed that must be added to the list of deliverables:
Create a brochure to give to businesses to ask if they wish to be a part if the Melville’s Temporary Contemporary. These brochures should be cheap and viable; finding a sponsor would be great, Postnet sponsored the printing of the A3 maps last year.
Add web addresses and phone numbers to the Temporary Contemporary website of all restaurants and shops involved in exhibiting work.
A bio is needed for each artist (to be placed on the map as well as their exhibition space).

Ideas to ask Sally about:
Creating a new logo every year for the Melville’s Temporary Contemporary, which could perhaps be linked to a theme for every year.
When buying the map, perhaps people can also buy a biodegradable or canvas bag with the Melville’s Temporary Contemporary logo printed on it.

Things yet to be researched:
Other “contemporary” galleries
Pop-up galleries

Finding inspiration for a logo:
The idea of “temporary”, this can inspire hand drawn type as well as a collage font with many individual letters from different fonts used to create a new font. Perhaps bringing illustration into the font is another way to go.
Here's a mood-board of awesome bits of type that I found in some old magazines.

Visiting 7th street part 2

After visiting the Melville Koppies, most of the BTech class made their way to 7th street for another photo opportunity as well as drinks and lunch.

A few of my classmates still recovering from the morning's hike.

Detailed bead work above the entrance of the Six Cocktail Bar and my classmates waiting for the bar to open.

Awesome glass pebble facade outside of the Six Cocktail Bar

Melville Koppies

After visiting the Melville Koppies for a hike I realised just how unfit I am. The biggest upside would be the most amazing 360˚ view of Johannesburg!

View of the cemetery and western horizon.

view of the north east with Sandton on he far left of the image and Cari Williamson (classmate) and Christa Van Zyl (lecturer) on the far right.

I am certainly not a nature child, so I didn't enjoy the hike as much as some of my other class mates but I did enjoy the beauty of the area (maybe more so after the hike while looking through my photos). Perhaps I’d have enjoyed the hike more if we were traveling at a slower pace so we would have had more time to take photos and enjoy the fauna. By the time we arrived at the educational area, where our guides showed us interesting artefacts from thousands of years ago, I was completely exhausted so I didn't take any more photos (which I wish I had)

Protea seeds

An awesome weird plant commonly called the "avatar"plant

few million year old rock-face

Even though my experience with the Koppies wasn't the best one, I would love to revisit it with more time and more space on my SD card for more photos!
